Steph McCarthy – Specialist Speech and Language Therapist and ADOS Practitioner – Guernsey

Steph is a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist with over 12 years’ experience working with children, young people, and families across both NHS and independent settings within the States of Guernsey. Alongside her independent practice, Steph has worked as part of multidisciplinary autism diagnostic services within the States of Guernsey and clinics on the island.
Steph has extensive experience supporting children across clinic, nursery, mainstream, and specialist educational settings, and now also offers home visits as part of her independent work. She has a particular interest in early child development, neurodiversity, and neurodiversity-affirming practice.
Steph is passionate about helping children, young people, adults and families better understand individual differences and how their brains work. She adopts a strengths-based approach to both assessment and intervention, aiming to create positive, supportive experiences that build confidence and understanding for the whole family.
In addition to her professional expertise, Steph brings valuable lived experience as a later-identified autistic woman and parent to an autistic child. She has undertaken extensive continuing professional development in the area of neurodivergence, including differing presentations of autism and the more subtle characteristics often seen in women and girls.
Outside of work, Steph enjoys spending time in nature with her husband, dog, and primary school-aged child, who is home educated. As a family, they enjoy art, reading, beach walks, and outdoor adventures.
